Residing in Dhokali, I along with majority of people (of Kolshet-Manorma route) face very serious Transportation Problem. The bus-service to this route is managed by TMT. The official time interval between each successive bus-travel to start from Depot is 15-mins. But practically, this duration easily stretches up to 45-mins during peak hours.
Apparently, I have been observing this strange phenomenon happening in this route since last 06 yrs. Back then, when the bus-stands were near Thane station, the waiting queue would almost elongate till the auto-stand behind & still the buses would not be released for that route before 40-mins. And to add insult to injury, they would send almost empty bus for the same route immediately behind the just released bus. Not sure about what must have been the motive behind doing so, but I have personally witnessed similar experiences. However, when cross-checked with the Depot-personnel about the bus-release schedule for that route, we found out that the schedule was maintained & checked as for 15-mins only. Me along with other commuters, have made entry in the complaint-book too, but till this date I’m not sure if any one has taken note of it.
During the construction-phase of extension-flyover besides the Thane station, the bus-stand for this route was moved to Gaodevi stop. There too, same pattern was maintained by the Depot-personnel. The commuters would often get involved in verbal arguments with them after urging for release of buses, but of no avail.
When the bus-stand was moved on top of this newly built extension-flyover, still the management was poor. The bus frequency is & was poor & the space allotted for standing was too less for public to accommodate properly (consider waiting for that much longer duration).
There was a single line for both 'Kolshet Rd' & "Manormanagar' route, which caused the waiting-queue to slither on road. At peak-hours, as time went by, & bus still not in sight, the queue used to double up on road almost giving other-route-buses no way. (They do however shifted, when other buses have to pass by).
This bus-stand too, was no way pertinent with no shelter-shade above. Imagine how the occurrence must be, to wait for a bus for that long, only to be eventually asked "Is that place within Thane?", and all this during day-time under the scorching sun without an appropriate shade in place.
If bus-services pose transportation problem, auto-services are not relieving either. In morning time, 80% of Auto-rickshaws REFUSE to take Thane-station route. These Auto-rickshaw drivers have a problem with almost everything. They won't take you to Thane-Station, nor anywhere near to it. 'Station', 'Gaodevi', 'CIDCO' you name it, & they refuse it. Many of them are willing to let only 01 passenger take seat (instead of 03). Why? We don't know, but its their demand.
With bus-schedules already posing problems, unwillingness of auto rick-drivers to commute till Thane-station adds to woe. In rush hour, I myself have waited as long as 30mins for Autos.
They themselves aren't providing proper services and won't allow others to join in. These Auto walas have their Union to defend them. They won't allow even few private vehicle owners to provide their service in that route, neither will they themselves.
Not sure if this suggestion is precise enough, but I would feel contented if the BEST approves to give a trial-run in this route and see whether they can bring a better satisfaction level to commuters.
I am trying to draft a formal letter to them. If you can, please provide inputs.

The bus-stop for this route have been again shifted back to Gaodevi location.

Recently, on 13-December-2009 a bus was inaugurated at Dhokali bus-stop signalling start of new Dhokali-Thane route. I am expecting the bus frequency to be increased soon to ease commuter's pain.

March 2010, And the bus-stop for this route have been again shifted back to newly built Fly-over  near Thane station, thankfully, this time shades have been provided over the bus-stops. But, you can see the long queue here too.
